I was reading Alfonso’s blog and it made me think about the 2 computers i’ve got in my trunk. That, in turn, made me think about my current lack of long term housing. I’m chilling in Jim’s living room right now, watching Lost, which i’m now thoroughly addicted to.
I’ve got one place i’m looking at that seems like it’ll work out alright. So hopefully soon i won’t be Redmond’s only homeless citizen.

I’m paid (someday) to test software for Microsoft, and yet i make a change to my comment system and never actually checked it. I wrote a regular expression to look for comments trying to post links, but instead of only allowing comments that didn’t contain one, i only accepted ones that did. I wrote a great feature that only allowed spammers to post comments on my blog.
Awesome

10 points if you read the title of this post and thought about Scrubs.
NEO might have been the biggest waste of time ever. I might be exaggerating, but still. The worst part was the Farraday cage they held the event in, making text messaging impossible. At least I got to spend some time on the first puzzle for puzzle day.
I made my way over to
building 110 (click that link, i’m sold on local.live.com being superior to google maps, though the aesthetics leave something to be desired in terms of the map itself. And come on, get some updated satelite imagery for cities. Anyway, when i get there and meet my mentor i find out that the CRM team is having some kind of field day. So they’ve got a catered barbecue going with teryaki burgers, angel food cake, potato salad and beer, all presented extremely well. After this we head in and talk about the team and the product and all that, followed by a round of poker and spending some time trying to get my computer set up. The stuff they do with Sharepoint is awesome.
After work, i headed over to Jim’s, making only like 5 wrong turns. I slept through half of ghost and the shell before realizing it was time to go back to Tarang and Ben’s.

Apparently dang spammers go looking for forms and submit links to whatever crap they’re hawking, some of it less than savory. So now my comment form does a quick find/replace looking for “<a href”. We’ll see how it goes, do links as they were done before. The benefit of rolling your own blog is that it’s not like anybody is going to write a script to submit blog spam on only my site (except maybe Scott, Alfonso or Austin; but they wouldn’t do it out of malice). The bad part is that if i was using WordPress or whatever there’d be a plugin to take care of this.
The number of comments would also be normalized instead of being a column in the blog post table. *hangs his head in shame*

After 3 days on the road, putting ~2700 miles on my car i decided to give out some awards. It’s not like i had anything better to do.
- Best Breakfast: McDonald’s (the Egg McMuffin still reigns supreme, for extra points add strawberry preserves)
- Best Gas Staion: Love’s (I’ve now been to every Love’s between Austin and Seattle on I-5 and I-10)
- Worst Weather: Northern California (Seattle’s climate came to me before i even made it out of the state)
- Worst use of a Freeway: Fredricksburg (after an hour of motoring along at 75 you hit Fredricksburg which has a speed limit of 30, parking on the side of the street and a large number of traffic lights)
- Dishonorable Mention: Portland (who puts a drawbridge on an innerstate)
- Best Phone Conversations: Lindsay
So, i start at Microsoft tomorrow. Weird. The number of blog posts should pick up. I’m still homeless, but i’ve got this couch til thursday and two more that i’m expecting to be able to use short term. I’m not unwise, i’m enjoying being single….Ok fine, it’s unwise, but it’s kinda fun.
