Thoughts from a pseudo-all-nighter

Filed under: Uncategorized — dave @ 10:44 am

So there comes a point in most college student’s lives when they realize that they’ve got too much scheduled in too little time. That hit me yesterday. Accounting project due today at 2, CS HW due by 5, MIS due by 12 and the realization that I don’t know whats going on in statistics anymore.

Yes, this is my fault. No, that doesn’t bother me.

IPAP scares me, I think I’ve finally grasped the magnitude of what is on my head. BYX’s annual Island Party should draw something like 5000 people, those people will be told by Jars of Clay to go to IPAP. As of this second I’m in charge of making sure that there’s something to go to.

Of course the larger question on my mind is my involvement in BYX as a whole in the next few semesters. There’s the path of increased involvement/responsibility: take on more roles next semester–Assistant Pledge Trainer? Cell Group Leader?–followed by probably running for an executive office. Or alternative 2: go inactive next semester. My involvement at Austin Stone and the ACM continue to increase and something is going to give. Either I decrease my involvement in one of those activities or in BYX and just being a regular member in BYX isn’t a valid option.

In other news, for the first time I’ve been invited to a wedding (unless you count my Aunt Terry’s wedding when I was real young, but that was more inviting my family than me) Anyway….Congratulations Tanner and Victoria, may God bless you with a long and happy life together.

Anyway, that’s a subset of the things on my mind.

Amazon.com

So Amazon.com offered me an internship. That’s ridiculously exciting. Like wow, how on earth did i get that? Of course the answer is that there isn’t anything on Earth.

So now I need to figure out if I’m gonna take it.

I guess i ought to dump a little core as to why this isn’t an easy decision.

God has been ridiculously amazing in my life for the past 2 months (and before, but yeah) I’ve seen so much growth through the Austin Stone, especially with my discipleship with John Murchison and recently Mark Telschow’s community group. I want that to continue over the summer, and 2000 miles would be a bit of a barrier. I’m really, really excited about my roommates next year, and I know for a fact Ross is gonna be in town, and I want to hang out with him, and by hang out I mean train for the Freescale marathon next February. I have 63 hours left to graduate, and 4 semesters to do it in. So summer school would be profitable.

Now the other hand. Sophomores don’t get internships with big name companies. Word on the street is Seattle is ridiculously fun. I know at least 3 people going to Seattle over the summer. I’d be getting paid…maybe a lot. If I take this, I will have a huge boost to my resume that could be leverage to an awesome internship next year (IBM Extreme Blue, Microsoft, IBM LTC)

In conclusion, I don’t have a conclusion.
